WATERLOO DOCK: Plans submitted for 330 waterfront apartments

More than 300 apartments could be built on Liverpool’s waterfront under plans being considered by the council.
Romal Capital has submitted plans for a new block of apartments on Waterloo Dock, on the northern edge of the city centre.
The development would consist of 330 one, two and three bedroom apartments and would be located very close to the Isle of Man ferry terminal, which is currently under construction.
The apartments, which would be spread across three blocks of between four and nine storeys, would comprise part of Central Docks, a section of the huge Liverpool Waters masterplan.
Described as the “beating heart” of Liverpool Waters, the proposals would see the become a leisure and business hub as well as a residential area.
A report submitted with the application said: “The site is located at the northern edge of the City Centre, in a currently un- used industrial context that is undergoing extensive re-development. Directly opposite to the site is the historic Waterloo Docks.
“This barren location, context of re-development and historical location have provided the opportunity to produce a development with a coherent sub neighbourhood within the new Central Docks neighbourhood. As well as still forming a link building, connect the south of the city to the north, in line with the parameters plan of the Liverpool Waters Scheme.”
The masterplan for the larger area around the building includes plans for a “Cultural Square” to the north, with the Isle of Man ferry terminal sitting at the other end.
The wider Liverpool Waters Masterplan includes a large stretch of the docklands to the north of the city up to Bramley Moore Dock, the proposed home of Everton FC’s new stadium.
The entire master plan would be expected to take decades to finish.
Liverpool Council will now consider Romal Capital’s proposals for the apartment development.
