HANDFUL HAVERTZ: Everton well beaten by Tuchel’s Chelsea

HANDFUL HAVERTZ: Everton well beaten by Tuchel’s Chelsea

Everton’s top four hopes were dealt a huge blow as they were easily swept aside by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Kai Havertz started his first game since January for the hosts and played a huge part in both goals as Everton failed to lay a glove on their opponents in the capital.

The first one saw the German’s strike go in off Toffees defender Ben Godfrey, with the effort going down as an own goal.

Havertz then won a penalty in the second half and Jorginho won the battle of wits with Jordan Pickford to seal the three points.

The German also had a goal disallowed for handball but was influential throughout the 90 minutes.

Reality Check

After Thursday's 1-0 win at West Brom, Carlo Ancelotti said he was dreaming of taking Everton in to the Champions League next season.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Ancelotti urged his side to move on from the defeat; "They played better than us. They deserved to win and they are a good team.

"The game that we planned was what we got for 30 minutes. But we have to be honest, we are not at the same level. We cannot play an open game against this kind of team. It was the plan to play the same way as we played against Liverpool, but against Liverpool we scored early.

"We are looking to fight for Europe. This is good for us. We will be there until the last game. We are disappointed for this defeat but no tragedy. We look to the next game."
