Another 51,000 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in the Liverpool City Region last week, with vaccination rates surging in Knowsley, St Helens and Sefton. In total, 575,701 people in the city region had received at least one dose of the vaccine by March 7, amounting to 45% of over-16s in the region.
There are fewer people being treated for covid in Wirral's hospitals than at any time since September 17 in hugely encouraging news. The very latest figures, from March 9, show there were 21 virus patients in the borough's hospitals, the lowest figure recorded for almost six months.
Food banks in Sefton are being visited by people working "low income" jobs more than anyone else. In the last five years, food bank use has increased by 75%. Since the start of 2021, the number of people applying for Sefton's Emergency Limited Assistance Scheme (ELAS) – a scheme to support residents who are experiencing severe hardship, a disaster or emergency – has almost doubled.
