NEWS ROUNDUP: Covid rates & dog ban

Your latest news update for the region

Liverpool's coronavirus rate is still sitting close to fifty cases per hundred thousand people as a plateau in infection levels continues. While the city's rate has fallen in a mostly consistent way since peaking on January 8, the last week has seen levels stall. However, deaths and hospitalisations are continuing to fall in the city.

The Government has announced that Liverpool will stage a series of test events across music, comedy, outdoor performance and business which will form part of a science-led Events Research Programme. Plans are currently being developed, with the ambition that they will take place throughout April.

Dogs will soon be banned from a number of public spaces in Sefton. In 2017, the council introduced a range of restrictions, including banning dogs from enclosed play areas and requiring them to be kept on leads in some areas. At a meeting, Sefton's Licensing Committee voted to renew the rules under a Public Space Protection Order  – with a new one added.
