More than 4,500 people died of Covid-19 over the first year of the pandemic in the Liverpool City Region. Although the city region's weekly Covid death toll has now reached its lowest point since September, figures released by the Office for National Statistics showed a total of 4,506 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic.
Liverpool has marked one year since England's first lockdown began with a series of tributes. In the city, a one-minute silence was observed at midday and immediately after the silence, a special event called Liverpool Together, was simulcast on radio and online.
A plan for up to 1,000 new homes is one part of an agenda which could transform Birkenhead. Wirral Council's Birkenhead 2040 Framework proposes the most radical change to the town since the 1947 Town Plan according to the local authority.
