DOCK ROAD: Why have the works come to a halt again?

DOCK ROAD: Why have the works come to a halt again?

Motorists have voiced their upset after works on a major scheme linking Liverpool with Sefton have ground to a halt.

The North Liverpool Key Corridor is a major project aimed at creating a modern, fully “dualled” road link on Great Howard Street  and Derby Road.

The scheme is also aimed at supporting the development projects being undertaken by Liverpool Waters, North Liverpool Regeneration and the SuperPort.

Despite Liverpool City Council predicting the works would be complete by Early 2021, drivers say the road surface is currently “a mess”.

Bootle resident Katie Netherway told the LDRS: “Constant diversions and so-called ‘roadworks’ on Derby Road, but I haven’t seen any work being done for weeks if not months.

“The road is a mess.”

In a tweet @Will19791 asked: “Why has work ground to a halt yet again at Derby Road/Millers Bridge?

“Why is road continuing to be in dangerous cambers and not a temporary surface? The condition of the road is unacceptable. “

While the works at Derby Road and Millers Bridge are in Sefton, the project is being managed entirely by Liverpool City Council – who have apologised for “unforeseen delays”.

Their spokesman said: “We are sorry that there have been unforeseen delays with this scheme, which we are delivering on behalf of Liverpool and Sefton councils.

“This includes having to divert utilities and acquiring properties.

“Work is expected to commence again in the near future.

“This is an important scheme and when completed will make a major difference to road users on this key route.”

Information on the council’s website suggests highway improvement works between Millers Bridge and Leeds Street will mean lane restrictions until April 30.
