ITV viewers were heartbroken to learn that Anne Williams, the brave woman who inspired the new drama Anne, had passed away.
Millions of people have been captivated to the series depicting the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster since Sunday night.
Maxine Peake's performance as Anne, the mother who persistently sought for justice after her teenage son Kevin died on what was supposed to be a day to remember for all the right reasons as Liverpool faced Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi final, has received wonderful reviews.
At the start of the game, catastrophic events occurred when Liverpool fans gathered outside were permitted admission to the stands, producing a human crush and killing 96 people, including 15-year-old Kevin.
Anne battled to collect additional evidence to figure out what happened to Kevin after realising that he didn't die in the stands and was alive on the pitch at one time, after having to make a heartbreaking identification of him amid a series of images of victims.
Anne died of cancer on April 18, 2013, at the age of 62, after never giving up her struggle for justice for her son and others. She is survived by two of her children.
