LOCKDOWN ROADMAP: The events that are and aren’t going ahead

Whilst we take the first steps of the the Government's roadmap out of lockdown, we're looking at events that will and won't be going ahead this summer.

The government has warned that any other easing of restrictions will be contingent on cases and hospitalisations falling below certain levels, continued success in the UK's vaccine rollout and no new concerning variants emerging. Whilst some summer events have been rescheduled, others like The Knowsley Social will be going ahead.

The Knowsley Social, which will launch on Thursday 20th May in the grounds of the Knowsley estate, is a purpose built big top tent comprising of 200 socially distanced pods for people and families to enjoy music concerts and events including Bongo's Bingo, Liverpool Disco Festival and Milkshake Live!

LCR Pride Foundation has announced the cancellation of Pride in Liverpool and its annual March with Pride for 2021. The event, which is sponsored by Barclays, was due to take place on Saturday 31st July.

Despite the Government's roadmap out of lockdown and hopes for a more normal summer with the expected return of some larger-scale events, uncertainty and risks around mass public gatherings and COVID-19 have prompted the organisation to cancel the physical events for a second consecutive year.

The decision comes after investigations into all possible options to bring the annual march and Pride in Liverpool celebrations back did not deliver a safe and viable option.

Liverpool will be part of a programme which paves the way for big crowds to attend events this summer. The city will stage a series of test events across music, comedy, outdoor performance and business which will provide key scientific data into how small and large-scale events could be permitted to safely reopen in line with the Prime Minister's Roadmap out of lockdown.

Plans in Liverpool are currently being developed, with the ambition that they will take place throughout April.

The evidence will then be shared across the event economy so that venues can prepare to accommodate fuller audiences.
