NATIONAL NEWS ROUNDUP: Tighter immigration plans & PM roadmap on course
The government has set out plans to make it more difficult for asylum seekers to stay in the UK if they arrive illegally.
Claims would be assessed on how they first arrived here. Home Secretary Priti Patel has said the new system will be "fairer" and crack down on criminal gangs. Labour said the plans would "do nothing" to stop illegality.
Both Boris Johnson and Chris Whitty have said the UK will face another coronavirus surged as restrictions are eased, with a third wave from Europe "inevitable". It comes as the Prime Minister told a group of backbench MPs that there was "no reason" to deviate from the roadmap.
