NEWS ROUNDUP: Concerns at Liverpool hospitals & get involved with BlackFest!

Hospitals in Liverpool are seeing strain unusual for this time of year and BlackFest want YOU to get involved!
The coronavirus infection rate in Liverpool now stands at 500 per 100,000 people. Hospital admission are still lower than during the previous waves but Liverpool hospitals are concerned that they are seeing strain unusual for this time of year.
St Helens Social Housing
Demand for social housing in St Helens has soared – with more than 8,300 people on the waiting list. There are concerns that this number far exceeds the amount of properties that become available each year. The issue is being discussed this week.
Members are set to give the green light to a 13-week consultation on the draft document to seek the views of the public – before receiving an update on the feedback in October.
BlackFest

Liverpool's grassroots Black arts festival, BlackFest is calling upon local creatives to showcase their talents this autumn. The non-profit organisation works with Black artists to create an annual festival programme and are seeking contributors with whom they have never worked before and those from a diverse range of backgrounds.

The 2021 programme of events due to take place this September will feature visual arts, film, spoken word, music, and theatre.

Jubeda Khatun, Director at BlackFest, said "There was a major shift during the pandemic on how we perceive our surroundings and daily interactions. Our narratives tell a story of a collective grief and resurgence of Black voices and experiences.

“Given the anniversary that sparked global protests on race, and how it played a vital role in the pandemic that exposed disparities within the UK system, we are looking closely at Place, Persona and Parables. Our 2021 festival will respond to those experiences; the artistic theme this year is 'Parallels' - whether it be geographical, political, historical, social, physical or class in our society."
