One north Liverpool leisure centre will stay shut until the winter after renovation works were hit by delays.
The Peter Lloyd Lifestyles Centre in Tuebrook was planned to reopen in the autumn after lengthy repair works.
However, council cabinet member for culture Harry Doyle confirmed in an update to councillors that complications that have arisen during the renovations have pushed its opening date back.
Councillor Doyle did not go into details about the delay in his latest update to the council’s culture and visitor economy select committee.
He said: “Peter Lloyd remains closed to the public as we await completion of the essential repair works.
“The Council has invested around £500,000 capital into Peter Lloyd and I hope this shows our commitment to the service and to promoting physical activity across our city.
“It was hoped Peter Lloyd would be opening in Autumn, however, due to further complications and repairs needed (Thus further Capital), this has set the opening date back to Winter 2021.”
Two other Lifestyles centres which have been shut since the start of the pandemic, Everton Park and Park Road, were able to reopen to visitors in September.
However, councillor Doyle said staff shortages meant they were currently opening limited services at some times and are opening six days a week as part of their phased reopening plan.
