“WE’RE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC”: say Boris Johnson and his team ahead of June 21st

Could June 21st still be on the cards?

Well we’ve had Portugal moved off the UK’s green travel list, to amber, meanwhile more countries have shifted into the red and all the while a Nepal variant? Boris Johnson and his team though have been reiterating the same phrase all the way along - explaining they’re quietly optimistic.

Labour too have been cautious, suggesting decisions based on data not dates are the right ones.

Meanwhile, the past week saw 75% of all UK adults receive their first coronavirus vaccination - here’s Matt Hancock.

This follows the Health Secretary not ruling out keeping guidance on face masks and working from home in place past June 21 in a bid to allow the majority of coronavirus restrictions to be lifted. Matt Hancock explained that while the data did not demonstrate “we are definitively off track” with plans to move to the final stage of the unlocking process later this month, he cautioned that it was too early to tell.

Asked specifically about some measures such as mask-wearing and working from home, he said further decisions would need to be made in the coming weeks.

A certain sense of normality in the air, as revellers across the UK enjoyed the warm weather, a sign they’ll hope of things to come as freedoms are set to continue.

Vaccines have long been cited as the way out, and as over 18’s across the UK, including in Twickenham were invited to get their jab, there’s a real sense of optimism.

Dr Genevieve Small, Chair of Harrow Clinical Commissioning Group says there are around 400 staff are involved in preparing and giving the jabs at Twickenham Stadium.
