FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Mykolenko thoughts after Everton debut

Everton fans have been split after the debut of new Ukrainian left back Vitaly Mykolenko against Hull City in the FA Cup.

Mykolenko became Everton's first signing of the January transfer window, with the move confirmed when the window opened at the start of the month.

After signing in a deal worth an undisclosed fee, the club handed the full-back the number 19 shirt.

He was thrown straight into the team against Hull City and received a mixed reaction from fans following his performance.

Mykolenko has been brought into the side to replace Lucas Digne, who moved to Aston Villa after the Ukrainian's arrival.

Everton boss Rafa Benitez reportedly fell out with Digne which is why he brought in a new left-back to replace him.

So how did he do? Everton fans on the Gwladys Beat podcast gave their first thoughts on their new man.

Nick Mernock thought Mykolenko played alright for his first game but was less than happy with Everton fans on social media slating him after his first appearance.

"I didn't think he did bad considering he apparently can't speak a word of English," Nick said.

"But the great braindead of Twitter have already decided he's rubbish and we should be selling him in the summer."

Scott Stirrup agreed, adding: "I think they're mad. He's (Mykolenko) come into that tie, in a really underperforming side and stats-wise he done well.

"How can you criticise him after that? The game was a shambles for a large part of it, they were all over the place.

"For me, he didn't look amazing, but who did in that back five? Absolutely nobody.

"You've got to give him some credit. He never had a bad game. He by no means looked rubbish and I'm sure he's only going to get better."

Dawn Kehoe disagreed however, and felt Mykolenko didn't have the best of debuts.

"I wasn't impressed to be honest. He looked a bit all over the place. He didn't look very strong.

"The amount of money we've paid for him, which isn't that far of what we're getting for Digne, you would expect someone who is a better more ready to go."
