MANAGER HUNT: Everton open talks with Nuno Espirito Santo

MANAGER HUNT: Everton open talks with Nuno Espirito Santo

Everton open talks with Nuno Espírito Santo according to various sources as they look to find a new manager.

Following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, who returned to Real Madrid in a shock move, the Merseyside club are now looking for someone to lead them in the 2021/22 season.

Nuno’s track record

Nuno, as he is most commonly known, is said to be the first choice candidate by Sky Sports amongst others and he has impressed in his four years in England at Wolves.

He managed to get the Midlands club promoted from the Championship in his first season with an astonishing 99 points. He then led Wolves to a 7th placed finish in 2018/19 as well as an FA Cup semi-final.

The next season was also a success as they finished 7th once again and also had an impressive run in the Europa League, reaching the quarter-finals and only losing to the eventual winners Seville.

However, his final season at Wolves was a little bit of a disappointment. After losing key players to rival clubs and to injury, Wolves only finished 13th and Nuno left by ‘mutual consent’.

But Everton’s owner, Farhad Moshiri, is said to be impressed by the way Nuno developed Wolves from a Championship club to one able to compete in Europe.

Other candidates

Other names in the frame for a fairly attractive job given Everton’s young English players and ambition include ex-boss David Moyes, who led West Ham United to a European finish this season.

There is also talk of ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez as well as a return for either Roberto Martinez or Marco Silva. However, according to the latest reports, Everton open talks with Nuno Espírito Santo.
