SOLSKJAER WARY: Bruno Fernandes could miss Liverpool derby clash

As Manchester United prepare to host rivals Liverpool on Sunday, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is concerned that key player Bruno Fernandes could miss out due to injury concerns.

Fernandes is one a few Manchester United players feeling the effects of bruising, after their midweek Champions League clash with Atalanta.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference that:“games like Wednesday night are always going to bring knocks and bruises”

The Norwegian continued on to say: “We do have two or three from that game. Bruno might be one of them that is a doubt, but he’s doing everything he can to be ready.”

Manchester United fans will be hoping that the Portuguese attacking midfielder will be ready to play come derby day.

The other two players that the United manager mentioned that are suffering with knocks from Wednesday, are Fred and Marcus Rashford.

Ole seems hopeful, however, that he has a fully fit squad to select from on Sunday.

“We have some knocks and bruises. But it’s still Friday, the game’s on Sunday, and we will give everyone time. Today (in training), we didn’t have everyone, but let’s see Sunday.

“I hope I can pick from a fully fit squad. It might be that I’m without two or three.”

The Red Devils completed an impressive comeback midweek, as they went 2-0 down to Atalanta in their Champions League group match.

The 3-2 win sees United climb to the top of their Champions League group.

In the Premier League, however, Manchester United have struggled for form, losing 4-2 to Leicester last time out.

Opponents Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League and after an away win at Athletico Madrid midweek, they’ll surely be in high spirits.

Solskjaer is wary of Liverpool’s form, stating: “A performance needs to consist of 90-plus minutes of attacking and defending, and when you play a team the level of Liverpool you have to be compact and aggressive as a team.

“You have to go out there and give every single drop of nous, knowledge, strong mindset and physical energy.

“It’s going to take everything to get a result against the best teams in the world and Liverpool are one of those. They are one of the teams we are trying to chase because what they have done in the last four years is something we are striving towards.”

This Sunday could be a chance for Manchester United to kick on their season and give them some much needed motivation.

Whilst a loss would pile on further pressure for their already under fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
