WILLOCK RETURNS: Is he everything Newcastle United needs?

Several sources have confirmed that Newcastle United have agreed a transfer fee with Arsenal to bring former loanee, Joe Willock back to the club.

The 21-year-old joined Newcastle on loan for the back half of the 2020-21 Premier League season and was an instant hit with the Geordie faithful.

Willock scored eight goals during his stint with the Magpies, helping Steve Bruce’s side retain their Premier League status for the 2021-22 campaign.

The Arsenal academy graduate’s performances for the Toon Army, saw him become Newcastle’s main target for the summer, with many rumours over the course of the summer suggesting that Willock would be returning.

Although, Newcastle wasn’t the only club Willock would be linked with a move to.

Arsenal have made their interest in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison clear, which has lead to rumours of Willock being involved in a player plus cash deal for Maddison.

Newcastle fans, however, will be happy to hear that it’s now been confirmed that a deal for Willock, between Newcastle and Arsenal has been struck.

Willock was absent from the Arsenal squad that suffered defeat to Tottenham in a pre-season friendly this past Sunday.

When questioned on his absence, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refrained from saying his player was going anywhere, stating:

“With Joe will explain the reasons when we can,”

“It’s all I can say now. When I can say more I will let you know.”

It is believed that Willock is yet to agree to personal terms with Newcastle, with some sources suggesting his party are wanting a deal for the player that reflects his importance to the club.

Meaning more than likely, any deal to bring Joe to Tyneside, will see him become one of the highest earners at the club, joining Allan Saint-Maximin and Jonjo Shelley in doing so.
