COMMEMORATION: Sir Captain Moore tribute mural painted in Northern Quarter
Manchester based Artist Aske strikes again with a beautiful mural tribute to Sir Captain Moore.
The piece stands proudly on the corner of Tib Street and shows Sir Tom in his suit, tie and glasses. The feature is on the same wall where Tony Wilson was once painted.
Over the last 12 months Captain Tom Moore stole the hearts of the nation after walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday and raising an astonishing £33m for the NHS.
On February 2nd 2021 he sadly passed away but his memory still lives on.
Residents tweeted their reactions to the mural on twitter:
"What a wonderful use of that wall!"
"This is brilliant, such a talented guy and a lasting memory of Sir Tom"
In the past year, Akse has been responsible for the George Floyd piece on Stevenson Square, a mural of an NHS nurse in the NQ, and an Ian Curtis mural.
He has been creating street art since 1992 and he says "I aspire to bring inspiration to the local community through the subjects I paint".
